What is it?

A massage treatment also known as ‘lazy yoga’ or ‘sports stretching massage’ incorporates restorative postures and stretches while the therapist uses palming as well as foot & finger pressure techniques to assist in relieving muscle tension.  The massage is provided on a special, cushy floor-based mat with the receiver dressed in loose, comfortable fit clothing.  Thai Stretch is very customizable for specific complaints and all techniques can be adapted to each person.

A Thai Stretch session can include long, deep stretches as well as nourishing joint movements of the shoulders, hips, knees & ankles guided by your massage therapist.  This is a wonderful treatment to help calm down after a long day.  It can literally help ground and balance our body by softening our structural asymmetries and infuse a sense of well-being into our whole self. Available with Jora Wentzel, RMT & MINN DOWNEY, RMT at our Dartmouth location or corporate events.

History:

Thai Massage is a 2500 year old traditional healing system which combines acupressure, Indian Ayurvedic principles, and assisted yoga postures.

Traditional Thai Massage and the touch techniques, go back to a long history of therapeutic healing with its origins in India not Thailand. There are many variations that are universally accepted among healers.

The Northern style of Thai Massage contains greater Indian influence, pulling from yoga poses and Ayurveda, and consists of the compression of the muscles and stretching to relieve tension. The Southern style contains a greater Chinese influence with its use of acupressure, with focus on the Sen Lines, also known as energy paths ways, for more of a relaxation approach.

Our approach at Sore Spots integrates both styles into one treatment- offering a massage that will stretch your muscles, release tension, improve joint mobility, reset the sympathetic nervous system, and leave you feeling open and refreshed. We highly recommend this massage for high level athletes, those who would like to work on their posture and anyone who may feel more comfortable wearing loose fitting or yoga geared clothing during treatment.
